Join Professor Emeritus Alex Horne and explore the fabled city of Timbuktu, as well as the Grand Mosque of Djenne, the city of Mopti and the Dogon region. Chartered flights will transport us from Bamako to the Sahel and into Timbuktu itself, bypassing arduous drives.

Aboard the 34-guest Callisto, cruise down the Gambia and Saloum rivers of Senegal and Gambia. Be surrounded by the villages and wildlife of the Kiang West National Park and the Makasutu Culture Forest and explore the cultural and natural history of this rarely-visited region. Conclude in Dakar, with its markets, museums and historical ties to the slave trade.

About the Lecturer
Alex HorneProfessor Emeritus Alex Horne was in the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering for thirty two years at U.C. Berkeley and introduced the now popular graduate discipline of Ecological Engineering. His expertise is in solving water pollution and water resource management problems around the world and his work continues as a consultant with many recent projects in the U.S. as well as Spain, the Gulf of Arabia and China.
