Along with U.C. Berkeley alumnus Steven Pond, Associate Professor and scholar of jazz and music of the African Diaspora at Cornell University, immerse yourself in the history, culture, music and cuisine of the Deep South, including a four-night cruise aboard the historic American Queen steamboat.
Timed to coincide with the 2008 presidential elections, this program will also explore the South’s impact and influence on American politics. Specially designed shore excursions to historic plantations and Civil War battlefields in Vicksburg, Natchez, Baton Rouge and New Orleans, firsthand experiences with Southern cuisine and New Orleans jazz, and an onboard Election Eve gala combine to make this a truly original Mississippi River cruise.
