Rochelle McFarlin '05, Alex Gonzales '05, and Dr. Caroline Kane '79, Adjunct Professor of Molecular and Cell Biology
The Achievement Award Scholars Alberto took his father’s lesson to heart; he studied hard, and earned A’s in physics and chemistry. He became a leader in his community by creating a volunteer program to clean graffiti and plant flowers in his neighborhood. Through his efforts, Alberto gained admission to Berkeley. His subsequent application and acceptance into Berkeley’s prestigious Haas School of Business undergraduate program is another step toward his dream of managing a non-profit organization one day.
All of the Alumni Association’s Achievement Award Program scholars have been admitted to Berkeley because they demonstrate intelligence, drive, and the ability to excel despite the significant obstacles they faced daily. They all possess a passion to achieve.
As Cal students, they share this passion with younger students by tutoring at local schools. They encourage these young scholars to believe that higher education can be a reality for them too.
