Frequently Asked Questions

What is mentoring?

Mentoring is a supportive relationship established between a Cal student and a Cal alum.

What is a mentor?

Mentors provide career and academic guidance as well as personal support during the demanding college years.

    What is a mentee?

A mentee is a current UC Berkeley undergraduate student who seeks support and guidance from UC Berkeley alumni around academic, career and life issues. The benefits:
    • Individual recognition and encouragement
    • Honest feedback and constructive criticism
    • Advice on how to balance education, career and extracurricular activities
    • A perspective on long-term career planning
    • Interaction with alumni with similar, cultural, familial, social and/or career interests

How much time does mentoring require?

When the mentor registers they decide how many mentees they can take on and how many hours per month they can be available. The mentor and mentee will work together to set a regular schedule for the duration of the academic semester or year.
