CAA mourns the loss of alumni leader Irene Miura '60
|
Professor Irene Miura '60 served as President of the California Alumni Association from 1997-99 and two terms as UC Alumni Regent in 1998-99 and 2000-01. As the first Asian American and only the second female CAA President, Professor Miura was a pioneer among alumni leaders. During her tenure at CAA, the Association experienced a substantial growth in programs engaging students with alumni. Always a strong advocate of Cal students, Professor Miura and her husband Neal Miura '60 started the Neal and Irene Miura Achievement Award Scholarship in 2004 in support of scholars with significant financial need. A brief biography of Professor Miura can be read in the June 1997 issue of the California magazine.
Irene, we will miss you dearly. The CAA family sends our most heartfelt sympathy to Neal and the entire Miura and Takei family.
A memorial service in honor of Professor Miura will be held on Tuesday, August 7th at 1:00pm at The Episcopal Church of St. Matthew, located at 1 El Camino Real in San Mateo. The phone number of St. Matthew's is 650-342-1481.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Neal and Irene Miura Achievement Award Scholarship, UC Berkeley, University Relations, Berkeley, CA 94720 would be appreciated.
