Frequently Asked Questions
|
What is the Lair? The Lair of the Golden Bear is the California Alumni Association’s summer family camp. Every summer the three camps that make-up the Lair—Camp Blue, Camp Gold, and Camp Oski— collectively host nearly 10,000 campers of all ages. The camp provides lodging, meals and loads of fun activities for campers to enjoy as well as a responsible and energetic staff to provide them.
From hiking to softball, swimming pools to tennis, pottery wheels and tie-dye to paddle boating on our neighboring lake, the Lair staff provides multiple vehicles for family fun. The staff even provides nightly entertainment around the campfire.

What does it have to do with Cal? The Lair is the Cal summer family alumni camp. We are comprised of Cal fans! The overwhelming majority of adult campers graduated from the University of California system, the greater part from UC Berkeley. This is a unique opportunity for both campers and staff to get involved in the extended Cal "family."
What are the differences between the three camps: Blue, Gold, and Oski? Our camps are right next to each other with separate, but similar facilities and programs. All three camps have staff shows, camper talent shows, age group activities, guest speakers, pools, art, hiking, and music programs.
Camps Blue and Gold each accommodate about 325 campers in tent/cabins that are randomly located throughout the camp. During the week campers of all ages enjoy athletic tournaments and games (tennis, basketball, horseshoes, bridge, backgammon, trivial pursuit, etc.) striving to win the wonderful little Lair trophies which are presented at the Friday evening campfire show. Camps Blue and Gold also compete against each other each week in softball and in volleyball-no trophies, just glory.
Camp Oski's tent/cabins are arranged in circles, providing an ideal camping atmosphere (with a campfire "pit" in the center of each circle-s'mores every night?). Oski is smaller, holding about 125 campers, and has a large beautiful pool, but no tennis courts and no tournaments throughout the week. Oski has the same great children's programs and campfire traditions as Blue and Gold, and a higher staff to camper ratio. Are pets allowed?Sorry, no pets allowed.
