Profile of the Month:
Mark Shalz '86, '91 Resume |
I am interested in networking with individuals who have experience working with:- Engineering
- Systems Engineering
- Physics
- Materials Science Engineering
My Background:- Science, Mathematics and Technology Education
- Engineering Physics
- Materials Science Engineering
- C/C++ and Java Programming
My Greatest Asset is that my education was multi-disciplined. Having studied engineering physics I consequently have the background and ability to quickly understand the many dimensions of engineering systems and how they interrelate. I work well independently and am relentless when solving problems. I am also self-motivated. I saw the need to make myself more versatile in the education field and subsequently took UC Extension courses in C++ and Java programming, data structures, object oriented programming techniques and UML as it applies to software design.
My Last Position was as a physics and technology instructor. I developed microcomputer based laboratory experiments for my physics classes using commercial software, and hardware sensors. I maintained weekly sets of goals and objectives for the courses and published them to the internet. I worked with other members of the science department team teaching courses, developing new courses, and maintaining department labs, supplies, and administrative documents. I worked with the mathematics department aligning math skills with science course prerequisites. In the technology department I successfully developed curriculum and taught courses in C++ and Java programming as well as web design.
I Work Best when given challenging problems and am allowed to seek their solutions with minimal direction. During my college career I worked independently on assignments and my success was recognized by receiving the distinction of Graduating with High Honors marked on my BS diploma in Engineering Physics. When working in a team I desire to work in an environment with team members that are responsible, highly motivated and share the same vision.
My Dream Job Would present challenges that allow me to seek their solutions independently after initial direction and where my talents would be recognized and rewarded with advancements. In my dream job I would gain experience with increasing levels of responsibility working under a professional engineer.
My Next Step would be to find a position that allows me to use my engineering education and skills. The position would offer engineering challenges that are multi-faceted and provide experience that would lead to upward mobility in the field. The position would also aid me in obtaining the professional designation Professional Engineer.
I welcome any suggestions, leads, opportunities, or information that could help me navigate my career change and job search to secure an engineering position. Feel free to contact me at: mls@alum.calberkeley.org. Thank you for your time.
Best wishes,
Mark Shalz
