Profile of the Month:

Manisha Gupta '05
Resume

I am interested in networking with individuals who have experience working with:

  • Applied Research and Public Advocacy
  • International NGO development and social work
  • Social justice and human rights
  • Non-profits, social entrepreneurship, or socially responsible business
My Background:

I obtained a B.S. from the Haas School of Business, and a B.A. in Social Welfare in August 2005. I have experience as a volunteer teacher, tutor, mentor, and have volunteered with a variety of non-profits, welfare, and advocacy organizations.

My Greatest Asset is ... The diversity of my academic and professional background. I have been able to use my business skills in the non-profit sector, two areas that are often very distinct. I have experience with administration, management, and academic research, as well as hands-on work with clients and disadvantaged populations.

My Current Position... is working as a Research Assistant at social psychology research labs at Berkeley and Stanford. All of the research I contribute to has a "real-world" focus, and I am interested in using social science research to help address societal issues, such as prejudice and discrimination, peace and conflict, intergroup relations, and organizational behavior.

I Work Best when ... I enjoy working as part of a team, but am a self-starter who is capable of working independently as well. I work best when there is an open line of communication between myself and my supervisor, and I appreciate constructive criticism or feedback.

My Dream Job Would Be ... To work or intern abroad in the coming year for a socially responsible or social justice organization, preferably in Western Europe. In the future, my dream would be to use my Social Psychology PhD in an applied field, such as women's policy or public welfare.

My Next Step is ... To either intern or work abroad next year, so that I can broaden my horizons and get exposure to a new political and social environment.

I welcome any suggestions, leads, opportunities, or information that could be helpful in my job search. Feel free to contact me at: mgupta@calalum.org.

Thank you,

Manisha Gupta
