Deanna Bernard '05 Resume |

I am interested in networking with individuals who have experience working with: - Social Work
- Counseling
- Non-profit treatment facilities
- Documentary filmmaking
My Background: - Recovery Counselor/ Case Manager/ Foster Care/ Group and Family Therapy
- Experimental Filmmaker
- Customer Service management
My Greatest Asset is my devotion to my ideals. I am absolutely a team player and work well in groups, but if I find an aspect of an organization compromising to my integrity, I will fight for a solution that is beneficial for all parties involved. I am a perfectionist… I will efficiently work until the job is done to it's best potential. I can see many angles on one issue; I am open-minded and liberal.
My Last Position was a recovery counselor/ case manager at a non-profit adolescent treatment facility. I create treatment plans for clients and organize their inpatient, outpatient and continuing care plans. As well, I facilitate individual, group and family therapy.
I Work Best when I am working with and for people who have a similar vision as myself. I need an environment where communication is encouraged between co-workers and management. I believe the same code of ethics we teach our children must be modeled ourselves.
My Dream Job Would Be the facilitator and counselor for a non-profit wilderness adolescent treatment program. This program will be based on the principles of nurturing, not confrontation. Children will learn about their disease, but engage in animal therapy, art therapy and work therapy that will address non-verbal issues so prevalent with teens. Clients will learn how to care for themselves by harvesting their own food, learning how to care for themselves through care for animals and build self-esteems through emergence with nature and physical activity. After a time, I would be interested in incorporating my film abilities to this network and teach children media techniques. I would also like to make a documentary based on the state of substance abuse occurring in our youth.
My Next Step is to apply to Graduate schools. I am in the process of researching whether or not I should get an MFT or an MSW. I am interested in the clinical aspect of either programs and am not as keen on policy, but thrive in actual practice with clients. I have minimal funds and am a California resident, but would enjoy travel to another state for the right program. I would be interested in hearing from practicing clinicians in both social work and counseling. I want to study in a program that provides me with the greatest options for the future.
I welcome any suggestions, leads, opportunities, or information that could be helpful in my job/ graduate school search. Feel free to contact me at: bernard_deanna@hotmail.com
Thank you,
Deanna Bernard
