Hablo Picasso
I speak modern art!

What kind of people get twisted? Say hello to chemistry professor Paul Bartlett, who’s been on the faculty here for 29 years. His specialty is using organic chemistry to understand biological processes. Which may—or may not—give him an advantage with titles. He also says he had a fantasy of having an entire Twisted Titles page to himself (and he sent in enough to do so). Then there’s Heidi Slocumb, who graduated from UCLA, not Cal, in 1965. She says her mother, the late Ellen Silber Barnett ’31, “inexplicably” gave her a CAA life membership, rather than one from the southern branch. Doesn’t sound inexplicable to us; it sounds like bio-organic chemistry between mother and daughter. Whatever your bio, send us your inexplicable titles, changing one letter only (of a book, film, saying, or whatever) and adding a snappy underline, to: Twisted Titles, California Monthly, Alumni House, Berkeley 94720. The Title title is from the postmodern Lynne Rauscher-Davoust ’57.
