The Achievement Award Program Scholarship Intern

The Achievement Award Program (TAAP) is a scholarship program managed by the California Alumni Association. Founded in 1999, TAAP will welcome its tenth cohort of scholarship recipients to the Cal campus this fall. With the addition of 25 new scholars, there will be approximately 90 TAAP scholars on the Cal campus. The TAAP intern position is open to all, with priority given to UC Berkeley work-study students. The intern position is a mix of event assistance, administrative, and project oriented tasks. This position works closely with the Program Manager, other CAA staff, and fellow interns.
SALARY: $10/hour, work-study students preferred. SCHEDULE: 8-10 hours per week, with occasional evenings and weekend days
Responsibilities: Assist Program Manager with various tasks related to the Achievement Award Program, including: • Data entry, event preparation, record-keeping, and other important administrative tasks • Answering phones, opening mail, and assisting the public with questions • Attending TAAP events and assisting with registration, setup, cleanup, and eating leftovers • Assist students in making a smooth transition from high school or junior college to CAL. The TAAP intern will also greet and assist any students and/or interested persons at CAA’s Alumni and Student Relations department.
Required Qualifications: The intern should be knowledgeable in most PC and Microsoft Windows applications including Word, Access, and Excel. The TAAP intern will also possess willingness and desire to learn as well as an awareness and sensitivity to various racial, ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds. Must demonstrate ability to handle confidential information with a degree of professional discretion, and be punctual, responsible, and reliable at all times. Detail-oriented, and creativity are musts!!
Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of UCB academic departments, student organizations, and UCB policies are a plus. A student with a devotion to and experience in undergraduate outreach, including recruitment and retention of underrepresented minority groups at Cal.
